WELBECK COLLIERY
Production finally finished at the colliery on 20 May 2010, bringing an end to nearly 100 years of mining at Welbeck Colliery.
Salvage work underground is ongoing and the eventual plan is to fill in the shafts later this year around August/September.
Transfers to Thoresby, Daw Mill and Kellingley have been made available to men from Welbeck who wished to stay in the industry.

THORESBY COLLIERY
Production has now commenced from DS1’s in the new deep soft seam and development work is progressing very well paving the way to opening up 8 years of reserves. Production is going well in conjunction with 57’s face in the Parkgate seam, 57’s is the last coalface to be mined in the Parkgate seam.
ANCIENT OAK ISSUE
Natural England have objected to Nottinghamshire County Council Planning Department regarding possible subsidence damage
to old Ancient Oaks where the first two faces in Thoresby’s deep soft seam are to be mined.
It has taken almost two years for the objection to be lodged by Natural England. UK Coal Limited are prepared to take legal action in securing final planning consent as the stakes are very high in terms of the £50 plus million investment by UK Coal Limited in Thoresby’s deep soft project. Job security for our members would be threatened if planning consent is not given to mine these two coalfaces. The land where the trees are situated is off the A614, near the old Proteus camp, which is owned by Thoresby Estates (They have not objected to UK Coal’s mining plans). A future meeting is to take place in June 2010 at County Hall where this issue will be considered by the Planning Committee.
