The hub of the Union of Democratic Mineworkers work across North Nottinghamshire is the office at Berry Hill Lane , Mansfield , where a dedicated team of professionals handles a wealth of issues on members' behalf.
One of the busiest offices today is the Industrial Claims Department which works independently to champion the rights of miners whose health has suffered through work.
Coming to terms with injury or disability caused through your work can be worrying, traumatic and even life-changing. Once you've made the decision to seek compensation, the last thing you want is to feel daunted by the legal procedure or unfamiliar with the world of the professionals whose job is to champion your case.
Our team of friendly and highly motivated professional claim handlers are up to date on Government legislation. They also have an in-depth knowledge of the mining industry - and that can be a major boon in helping speed up your claim,
It's the job of our friendly and highly-motivated claims team to provide an efficient and professional service, keeping right up to date with the latest Government legislation.
This combination of industry and legal insight is the key to the UDM's unrivalled success rate. A case in point is with a claim of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). At certain stages, failure to pay attention to detail and meet crucial deadlines can make all the difference to the level of compensation agreed or even worse, the claim could fail completely.
We also take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that miners receive their full claims entitlement – and that no DSS benefits are ever deducted unfairly. Sometimes that means challenging decisions – more than once!
This happened recently when the DSS was deducting £21,000 from a widow's claim. We challenged the decision a total of four times - eventually it was overturned and she was allowed to keep the money that was rightfully hers.
